Happy Tails on Trails is a new business in Spokane dedicated to providing dogs the proper exercise they need while giving dog owners the peace of mind that their pet is healthy and happy while they are away.
Owner, Kenzie Ferguson, has always had a love for animals, especially dogs. “I have a mission in this life to help and care for dogs,” Ferguson explains. “Animals are amazing, and they don’t care what you look like or how much money you have. They care about one thing, and that’s the heart that beats inside your chest.”
Years ago, after a long bout with depression, Ferguson discovered first-hand how therapeutic having a four-legged friend could be. “One day during this time I saw an online post from a woman who couldn’t keep a litter of puppies,” she recalls. “That was when I saw Vato. I drove four hours to get him, and once I held him in my arms, I knew everything would be okay. It’s because of him that I was inspired to start this business.”
Ferguson explains that depending on their size, dogs require 30 minutes to two hours of exercise every day to stay healthy. “When people come home from a long day at work it can be hard to find the motivation and energy to take their dog out for exercise,” she says. “So, my job is to pick the dogs up from their home, take them on a hike, with many water breaks in between, and then drop them back off. The dogs love it, and so do I!”
