This year’s Get Lit! Festival, the region’s only week-long literary festival, is excited to announce the addition of a Yoga for Writers program being held on April 26 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Spokane Yoga Shala.
“This exciting new program was specifically designed for those passionate about writing, poetry and yoga,” says Kate Peterson, Director of Get Lit! programs. “We will begin with a Kundalini yoga class at 8:30 a.m. taught by instructor Ara Lyman, owner of the Spokane Yoga Shala, followed by a poetry reading at 10 a.m. by poets, Janaka Stucky and Ellen Welcker.”
Stucky, a mystic poet, performer and publisher, is the founding editor of Black Ocean Press, and the author of The World Will Deny It For You, The Truth Is We Are Perfect, and Ascend, Ascend. Ellen Welcker is a local Spokane poet whose books include Ram Hands, The Botanical Garden, and several chapbooks.
The Get Lit! Festival will run April 22 to 28 and offers numerous free and low-cost events including readings, panel discussions, poetry slams, writing workshops and more. “It is our mission, both in our festival programming and our educational outreach, to advance the arts, celebrate diversity, and empower creativity,” says Peterson.
